#60 Beyond the Hills (2012, Cristian Mungiu) (Recommended)
"Evil everywhere you see."
Psycho-sexual ruminations on faith and the hypocrisy of the church. Less impactful and immediately shocking than Mungiu’s debut 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (of which I was a big fan,) but probably more complex and thought provoking as a result. I feel like a lot of subtext in this went entirely over my head, as many things do, but it was still an effective, dark little film that seems to have disappeared mostly despite the drawing power of its director.
