#55 What Richard Did (2012, Lenny Abrahamson) (Recommended)
A terrific drama.
This has a pleasing naturalistic quality to it but unlike a lot of films of a similar style, carries real dramatic weight too. Its a character study acting as a portrait of a social class, following a group of privileged Irish kids on the brink of adulthood.  It captures that agegroup very well, even if this means a lot of the characters are not really likable, and the lead performance (one Jack Reynor, future Transformers star apparently) is strong and nuanced enough to hold the thing together.
You can watch a lot of film’s of this independent, lowkey type and quickly forget all about them, but this was powerful and i think there’s a lot in this that will resonate and stick.
